Dr. Manicka Saravanan (elderly care/senior citizen physician) is a distinguished Geriatrician, having completed his postgraduate studies in Geriatric Medicine at the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. With nearly a decade of clinical and research experience, Dr. Saravanan contributes significantly to the field.
Dr. Saravanan has an extensive background in falls, gait assessment, and the rehabilitation of older individuals. He has presented his work at esteemed conferences such as IAGG, EuGMS, WCFPS, and Gericon. He has also authored chapters in academic textbooks and course materials in geriatrics. Currently, he serves as a consultant and academic lead for the Geri care group in Chennai. His commitment to the field is further exemplified through his active participation in CMEs, clinical society meetings, and grand rounds.
His research domains encompass orthogeriatrics, geriatric syndromes, pain and palliative care, and cognitive disorders. In addition, Dr. Saravanan has contributed academically, serving on the teaching faculty of preeminent organizations including the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG)-Asia Pacific region, Indian Academy of Geriatrics (IAG), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), and the World Health Organization-Integrated care for Older People (WHO-ICOPE) master training.
Dr. Saravanan emphasizes holistic care for elderly individuals, specializing in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). Employing CGA, he addresses multifaceted challenges like multimorbidity, polypharmacy, and falls, which are notably prevalent among the elderly. This approach allows Dr. Saravanan to cater to the individualized needs of each patient, ensuring superior care standards.
